Sirohi Goat Breed Introduction:– This goat breed is native to Sirohi district of Rajasthan state. This goat
breed is widely distributed in surrounding area. Ajmer, Jaipur, Tonk, Bhilwara and adjoining areas in state
of Gujarat are very famous for Sirohi goat breed raising/rearing. The usual flock size of Sirohi goat in these
areas varies from region to region and ranges from 50 to 250.The Sirohi breed is also found in the state of
Uttar Pradesh on large scale commercial lines for meat production.

Performance of Sirohi Breed:- These breed goat are raised for both meat and dairy (milk) purpose.
However, milk production is relatively less in this goat breed. On an average, each Sirohi female goat
yields about 0.5 to 0.7 kg milk per day. The lactation period in Sirohi goat is about 4 to 4.5 months. An
average of 80 kg milk yield can be obtained during this lactation period of 135 days.

Sirohi Breed Kidding:- Generally a female goat (doe) gives kidding two times a year. In each birth, 40 to
45% of singles and 55 to 60% twins can be expected. It is very rare to expect triplets in Sirohi goat breed.
In Sirohi breed, usually, the first kidding starts at 18 to 20 months age. On an average, Sirohi goat kid
weighs about 2 to 2.5 kg at the time of birth

Sirohi Breed Features:- These breed goats are compact to medium sized animals and their main coat
colour is brown with dark or light patches. Some of the Sirohi goats can be found in white colour as well.
These breed goats are covered with short hair and fairly dense. When it comes to Sirohi goat ears, they are
flat and leaf like, medium sized and drooping. Both male goats (Bucks) and female goats (Does) have
horns in small size, curved backward and upward direction.

Sirohi Breed Speciality:- What is the main advantage of Sirohi breed? Well, this goat is well suited for stall
feeding and semi-stall feeding as well.
Price of Sirohi Breed:- Generally, any goat price depends on many factors such as age, weight, health
condition, local market demand, and season. If you are planning for raising these goats commercially on
large scale, one can negotiate with the price of flock. Generally, one can get live weight @ 140 to 150
rupees/kg (female/doe) and Rs. 175 to 200/kg (male/buck). Goats for breeding purpose cost more when
compared with regular meat goats.
