Introduction of Jamunapari Goat:- Jamunapari (Jamnapari) is one of
the beautiful goats originated from Indian subcontinent. These goat
breeds also have been imported to Indonesia where this breed became
very popular and had commercial success. Basically, the name of
“Jamunapari” goat was derived from the river “Jamuna” in the state of
Uttar Pradesh (UP). These goats are also found in Bangladesh. This goat
breed is reared for both milk and meat. However, it is more popular as dairy goat. This breed is one of the ancestors of the American Nubian goat breed. When it comes to Jamunapari behavior, during the winter, these goats spend more than 80% of their time in grazing and in summer, this falls to around 50%. Jamunapari goat breed browses on bushes, tree leaves or small plants and the top of grasses rather than typical ground grazing. Jamunapari goats are also called with different names like “Ram Sagol” and “Jamnapari”.

Jamunapari Goat Description:- The following are the characteristics of Jamunapari goat breeds found in India.

Jamunapari goats are excellent dairy goats when compared to other goat breeds.
When it comes to size, they are big animals and males are bigger than female goats.
When it comes to coat colour, these goats are in white, black, yellow, brown or various mixed colours.
The typical character of Jamunapari goat breed is a highly convex nose line with a tuft of hair known as
‘Roman Nose’ or parrot mouth appearance. Generally, the ears of this breed are very long, flat and
drooping. Both male Jamunapari and female Jamunapari goats are horned with short and thin tail.
The breed of this goat has very well developed udder round in shape with large conical teats.
Usually, Jamunapari goat body is in good sheep well developed with long legs, pendulous ears and short
& thin tail. This breed will have long hair in the thigh and back legs.
The milk of Jamunapari goat is very tasty and healthy which contains about 5 to 6 % of fat.
Generally, this goat breed has a pair of small sized horns which are curved to backwards.
Long sized legs and ears. The ears are long and flat, curled and drooping.
Usually, Jamunapari goats give birth to one kid in a year.
Jamunapari goats love to graze in open space.
This goat breed is very much suitable to dairy goat farming business when compared to other breeds in
India.
One can feed these goats with Barley, Jowar/Sorghum, Bajra, peanut grass, CO-1, CO-2 grasses for quick
weight gain and good milk yield. Kids are raised by their mother for their three months of age. In this
period they consume their mother’s milk and some other extra foods like green grasses, leaves. Silage
can be made out of these green crops and can be used in dry time.

Purpose of Jamunapari Goat Farming:- Jamunapari goats are raised for both milk and meat. However,
they are popularly known as dairy goats. They are very well suited for commercial dairy and meat farming.
The best part of these goats is kidding percentage. Goat farmers can multiply these goats in short period
of time as they can give birth to twins and triplets
